Started blogging not very long ago. As you can see from the date, this is my third post. Few days before I setup my web site, an earthquake at Taiwan, caused the Internet backbone from Malaysia to fail. I was having a lot of difficulty accessing the website and can’t really access the Write section to post anything.

I have decided to move it to another web hosting provider. I choose a Cpanel provider, which is the same as the one having problem, and sent in a ticket to the hosting company to backup and restore my website. There is basically nothing in there, but just a WordPress 2.0.5 installation.

After a few hours, the support staff responded to me saying that it has been successful. I was happy to know that. But when I access the site, I was shocked. The website was totally not the way it should be! The WordPress was completely reinstalled (for one of my project) and wiped out (for another blog)

Thankfully I had my backup file. I opened it up to find that my database dump file was correctly backed up with all the data in there. Not sure what to do , I went on live chat with the hosting company and started asking why the data is not there. Very quickly I dropped a complaint email to the customer service department too.

Eventually the technical support on live chat and I came to discover that, my database was backed up using MySQL 4.1 , but restored to MySQL 4.0. So the end result is the database was not restored properly. Thus causing me a few hours of good sleep.

I was happy that I got this resolved today.

However… the next thing on my task list, is updating the WordPress blog to version 2.0.6. I haven’t even started the main course yet =)
